Each week, the front end team meets to discuss user experience, areas of improvement, code problems, and anything else that opens the floor for creative discussions. A lot of great ideas are born in these meetings and a nice exercise to get all of the details covered is an old fashioned whiteboard challenge.
We break each topic out into 5 groups: Problem, Needs, Assumptions, Flow, and Sketches.
You'll notice my WADEL method in the top right of most of these shots. I like to format my meetings to keep a good pace and flow. We start with something good, move on to open questions, the actual discussion, ending on an empowering note, and finishing by launching out of the meeting feeling fulfilled and ready to work. The idea came from a leadership training course and it has been a great tool for me.
Sometimes we need an extra board for bigger ideas.
These whiteboard challenges have helped bring user experience to the forefront of our weekly meetings. It has retrained our way of thinking on the front end and has lead to some great improvements.
